Brown May 2, 2001 (410) 436-1531 (267) 253-8319 WKDU CELEBRATES ITS 18TH ANNUAL REGGAE MARATHON Once again, WKDU 91.7 FM, Drexel University's voice in the Philadelphia community will present its annual Memorial Day weekend Reggae Marathon. This year's marathon will commence on Friday, May 25 at 3:00 PM and run non-stop through the following Tuesday, May 29, ending at 9:00 PM. This year marks the 18th Anniversary of WKDU's Memorial Day weekend Reggae Marathon. The theme of the marathon is "Immigration: Get the Facts". Special events are planned including but not limited to taped interviews, discussions, and documentary on the subject by experts in the immigration community. The object is to educate or enhance the knowledge of the listening audience on the subject matter. WKDU's listening audience will have several means of enjoying this years' marathon. As always, 91.7 on the FM dial, via the Internet at www.wkdu.org and a potential simulcast on Drexel University Television (DUTV), Comcast Cable channel 54. In addition to broadcasting the rich variety of reggae music from ska to dancehall, this year's programming will also feature interviews with local dignitaries of the Caribbean community. Hopeton D. Brown, who has been programming reggae music on WKDU for the past twenty years, is once again coordinating and producing this annual affair that has received growing national attention each passing year. WKDU's Reggae Marathon has become an annual staple for reggae lovers in the Delaware Valley and for friends who annually journey to Philadelphia just to listen to this one of a kind radio event.
