THE WAILING SOULS RETURN TO THEIR ROOTS – TRENCH TOWN, JAMAICA Reggae music patriarchs Wailing Souls, Winston "Pipe" Matthews and Lloyd "Bread" McDonald, recently made an emotional return to their roots and contributed $50,000J to the Trench Town Cultural Center. They also shot a video for their single "Don’t Say" in Trench Town and launched their newest album Equality (on Musicblitz and distributed by Dynamic Sounds) in Kingston, Jamaica. Both, Pipe and Bread, hail from Trench Town, which has produced some of the finest Jamaicans in all fields of endeavors. Pipe, was actually born in the same Bob Marley Culture Yard and the Wailing Souls were the first group to be signed to Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong record label. The King of Reggae even hailed them as his favorite group. In making the emotional presentation of $50,000J towards the development of the Bob Marley Culture Yard, Pipe put things in perspective, "After all our international success, it’s great to come back to our roots--to the yard I was born in and give something back to the community. Our music is about equality and Trench Town is a University." A video for "Don't Say", the first single release from Equality, was shot at the Cultural yard and First Street in Trench Town by the dynamic Advidco team consisting of director Kevin Lee, Ras Kassa and produced by Trevor Baillie. After a week of intense press, radio and tv, including appearances on Entertainment Report, CVM, IRIE-FM, Hot 102, RJR and TVJ's "Smile Jamaica", the band hosted a launch party for the album release at the Terra Nova hotel. In attendance were Sly Dunbar, Third World's Cat Coore, Bunny and Judge from the Mighty Diamonds, original Wailers' Seiko, Sky Juice, Tiger, producer Bobby Digital, Stone Love's Winston 'Wee Pow' Powell, Delroy Morrison and Courtney Robb of Dynamic Sounds, Brian and Wayne Jobson, Brian Glover of Musicblitz and the creme de la creme of the Jamaican music industry.
