June 24, 1999 -- As you may be aware, Clinton Fearon (#372) was diagnosed with colon cancer in late May and underwent two surgeries. He was released from the hospital on Saturday, June 19th, and is resting and recuperating at home in Seattle. Clinton has issued the following statement: "Being diagnosed with cancer has humbled me quite a bit. It has shown me that taking care of our bodies is very serious business. And that we must take each day, one day at a time, loving God and being thankful for what we have. I've always felt that I am just a vehicle, that God uses me to do His will through my music; so I guess it's not time for me to go away - I've still got work to do! This last month has been a hard ordeal; I have come through only by the grace of God, and with the love and support of my family and friends. I give thanks for the people in my corner, for those who have prayed for me and sent me good wishes and thoughts." Entertainment Works/NLPR has established a trust fund to assist Clinton (who doesn't have health insurance) with his medical/surgical expenses. Those wishing to donate may send a check, payable to Entertainment Works Trust Fund/Clinton Fearon; the mailing address is Entertainment Works/NLPR, 2400 Poplar Drive, Baltimore, MD 21207 USA. Clinton Fearon & Boogie Brown Band (www.wolfenet.com/~boogie/CF.html) will resume live performances on July 31st at the prestigious Vermont Reggae Festival (www.vtreggaefest.org) and the group has been selected to headline the Saturday (August 21st) showcase night at Club Ibex during RAW Conference & Showcase '99 (www.RAW99.com). Clinton will also be participating in the RAW C'99 Song Writer Panel entitled "Conscious Lyrics." Clinton will resume doing telephone interviews in two or three weeks.
